South Dakota Lakes & Streams Association was organized in 1992 as a non-profit corporation comprised of individuals and associations who desire to improve and protect South Dakota's lakes and waterways. SDL&SA encourages and supports all lakeshore property owners, lake and stream associations, agencies and water users to protect "swimmable" and "fishable" waters and to prevent contamination of groundwater.
The development and use of our state's freshwater lakes continues at an increasing rate. Lake homeowners and managers are documenting a greater frequency of user conflicts, declining fishing quality, increased weed and algae growth, all which may be related to excessive development, watershed pollution and simple over use of the resource.
These problems often rise to the formation of local lakeshore property associations, as well as the involvement of individuals, companies, and agencies. These local interests share similar concerns and often have identical purposes. The need for a state wide representative of these associations has resulted in the formation of SDL&SA.
