Environmental Steward of the Year Award
2007
Karen Tufty member of the Flandreau City Park Board of Directors and coordinator of the Flandreau Wetland Education Center Project was recipient of the award at the May 10, 2007 SDL&SA Annual Meeting.

E. C. "Skinny" Krull received the Environmental Steward of the Year Award from Executive Director Don Marquardt and President G. A. Myers in May 2006 for his overall stewardship of South Dakota's lakes and streams.

Morrell Spencer received the Environmental Steward Award in May 2005 from President G. A. Myers for support for the continuation of our operations.

Dick and Ardis Neish received the 2004 Stewards of the Year Award for their efforts in Brant Lake H.S. Student Shoreline Cleanup, Lake Association Liaison, Storm Drain Awareness project, and their continuing service on the SDL&SA Executive Committee as Past-President and Secretary. Congratulations to both for their continued efforts to protect and preserve our water resources.

Kent Meyer, 8th grade student from South Shore, presented a booth at the 11th Annual Conference that was his Science Fair project. He received "Outstanding Project of the South Shore Science Fair for 2003, and a special recognition at the Regional Science Fair in Brookings. His project was a water quality comparison study of Punished Woman Lake, 1994 and 2002. Kent is currently a volunteer monitor for Punished Woman Lake. He has been awarded a scholarship to the Oak Lake Science Camp for Middle School students in August. Kent is grandson of the late Vern Meyer, former President of SDL&SA. Congratulations, Kent. Our water resource future lies in outstanding young people like you!

The Deuel County Lakes & Streams Association was awarded the South Dakota Lake Association of the Year for 2003. The Association represents 15 lakes in the county. During 2002, five of the lakes were active in restoration projects. First was Clear Lake, with the dredging and water shed restoration. Then Lake Cochrane with their Phase 1 study and implementation. Lake Alice had Alum treatment. Two more lakes will be reported on later.

Gerald A. (Jerry) Myers in 2002 received an award "In Appreciation for Outstanding Achievements in Education, Networking, and Journalism." He is the Annual Conference Planner, Assistant Webmaster, Membership Committee chair, SPLASH editor, and Vice President of the Executive Committee of SDL&SA.
